Frequently Asked Questions

About Engagement Rings

What should I know before buying diamond earrings?

First, set your budget. Diamond earrings can vary hugely in price, depending on the size you go for and whether you choose natural or lab diamonds. Then, consider the shape of diamond you want - perhaps start with the most iconic: round.

Select the shape and style you like, then filter through the carat weights and natural vs lab diamonds to see what matches up with your budget. Don’t worry too much about the grades of the diamonds - our experts source perfectly matched diamonds to create earrings, within the colourless range, D to F, and ideal clarity range for beauty and value, VS and SI.

What size diamond earrings should I get?

If you’re looking for a more demure, subtle look, choose a carat weight under 0.60ct (thats a total of 1.20tcw for both studs). For second piercings or for that micro-stud look, look between 0.10ct (0.20tcw) and 0.50 (1tcw).

If bigger and bolder is your style, you can choose any size from 0.70ct (1.40tcw) right up to 1ct (2tcw).

Remember, the carat weight you choose for your earrings will determine their price: the larger the diamond, the more expensive the earrings. However, you could consider lab diamond earrings for larger diamond earrings for your budget.

Many people like to graduate the size of their diamond earring stack, with the largest earring at the base of their ear lobe, with the earrings getting smaller in size further up their ears.

Will my two diamond earring studs match?

Absolutely - our experts source perfectly matched diamonds to create each pair of diamond earrings. This means we look closely at the size, shape and symmetry of the stones before delving into their cut, colour and clarity grades. While every diamond is unique to an extent, making sure each of your diamond earrings looks identical to the eye is really important.

What quality should the diamonds in my earrings be?

Diamond earrings should be reasonably high quality - but there’s no need to break the bank trying to achieve this. The most important grades to look for are a high cut (Excellent, Ideal or Very Good) and colour grade (D, E or F), meaning they’ll emit super sparkly, bright, colourless light.

To keep costs down, diamond earrings need only mid-range clarity grades like VS2 or SI1, where inclusions won’t be visible to the naked eye - only under microscope.

Diamond earrings below a total carat weight of 0.60tcw do not need to be certified, but we’ll use our expertise to source the best looking stones for the best prices, regardless. This helps to keep the cost of your diamond earrings down, without compromising on beauty.

How much are stud diamond earrings?

Diamond earrings start at prices just under £700, for 0.10ct earrings (meaning a total carat weight of 0.20twc). Some diamond earring shapes are a little cheaper than others, like pear diamond earrings. Shapes like round diamond earrings tend to be a little more costly - but only a little.

What shape diamond stud earrings should I choose?

Round diamond earrings are the most classic and timeless shape, and fit beautifully into any jewellery collection. You could, however, match the shape of your engagement ring or build a collection with a variety of shapes.

Diamond earring shapes like round, pear, marquise and princess cuts are extremely sparkly. Emerald cut earrings are a little more subtle in their sparkle.

What will my diamond earrings come in?

Your diamond earrings from Queensmith will arrive in our much-loved earrings box. The design of the box is luxe and plush. You can keep the earring box to keep your earrings in when you’re not wearing them.
