We love sharing what we know, so here’s some
information we think you’ll find useful.
Inviting Co-Creators into our business puts our practices under more scrutiny than usual because we are literally opening up the door to them.
VASHI believes that what we say and do behind the scenes is as important as what we say and do on the shop floor (if not more so). We will continue to improve our actions in relation to people (human impact, community impact, equality and inclusion), pricing, product (supply chain and trade practices) and the planet.
The VASHI Conflict-Free Diamond Policy
Diamond Manufacturers Ltd (“VASHI”), along with the global diamond industry, has a zero-tolerance policy toward conflict diamonds. Our diamonds are responsibly sourced, certified conflict free via the Kimberly Process, and abide by national and international law.
The Kimberley Process tracks diamonds from mine to market. It is an industry in partnership with the United Nations, governments, and non-governmental organizations, which polices diamond exports to prevent the trade of illegal diamonds. The Kimberley Process has, to date, 54 participants representing 81 countries.
At VASHI, we only purchase diamonds through the largest and most respected suppliers who, like us, proudly adhere to and enforce the standards established by the Kimberley Process. All VASHI diamonds are warranted to be conflict free. If one of our suppliers was ever found to be in violation of that process, we would immediately sever that relationship.
We will continue to support and promote any process that works to uphold legitimacy in the diamond trade. Diamonds are mined throughout the world, including major mines in Australia, Africa, Russia and Canada. Diamonds are a major source of good in many African nations, employing and providing healthcare to thousands. For more information on this issue, please visit DiamondFacts.org.
Concerning Zimbabwe Diamonds
VASHI is committed to ensuring that the highest ethical standards are observed when sourcing our diamonds and jewellery, this extends to ensuring our diamonds come from ethical sources. Because of the reported human rights abuses in Zimbabwe's Marange diamond district, VASHI will not purchase or offer diamonds from that area.
Across our business, VASHI observes the highest ethical standards. We insist our business partners do the same. This extends to our gold sourcing.
Most of our gold (70%) is recycled and all of the bullion supplied to our business is audited by The Responsible Jewellery Council.
VASHI views its policy on responsible mining as an evolving standard. We commit to continuously review our position with the goal of expanding it over time to have the broadest possible impact.
Low Waste & Local Manufacture
We do not manufacture in overseas factories. All of our product is made-to-order locally in our stores, reducing waste and keeping shipping to a minimum.
We create a majority of our pieces to order, and we encourage recycling and invite our customer to reinvigorate an old piece or forgotten heirloom to create a contemporary treasure to love now.
We cut excessive margins from the supply chain to offer high quality, responsibly sourced diamonds for a fair price.
Our Co-Creation model of working with customers to transform raw materials into unique pieces means we are able to show customers how their specific diamond measures up on price compared to a similarly graded diamond.
